Us About Using This New System For AIT
How Does
The Filtered Sound Training System (FST) for AIT Work?
When an individual listens to music from the FST or PortaFST
Systems, the muscles in the middle ear shift and readjust continually in
response to the modulated tones. This continual movement of the muscles in the
middle ear becomes an exercise that strengthens the ears ability to modulate
sound. Read more about AIT and the Brain and
well as
clinical studies on AIT.
What Does AIT Do?
As the result of research, it is shown that
the cochlea experiences a ‘wash’ of fluid back and forth as well. The net
positive effect is that the middle, and to some extent the inner ear, receive
the equivalent of a massage that allows for greater flexibility and
responsiveness to sound stimuli. Auditory information from the ears is processed
by the temporal lobe of the brain, which is also
heavily involved in the processing of language-based information and has some
role in emotional functioning.
This is why AIT can benefit those with
speech delay,
stuttering and other
speech issues.
There is clinical evidence that AIT involves remapping of areas
of the brain associated with auditory processing
and that the temporal lobe stimulation encourages the development of new
dendritic branching. Ongoing research will come to reveal more clearly how the
kinds of changes practitioners regularly report are brought about.
Development Of Filtered Sound Training (FST)
FST is an
new and updated adaptation of the internationally known system of
Berard Auditory Integration Training
(AIT). This new development has been made possible through the combined
expertise of the team at Dataworks, Waterford, in Ireland and Rosalie Seymour, AIT Practitioner and Professional Seminar Trainer who was certified by Dr. Berard
in 1994.

SYSTEM - PORTABLE OPTION
FOR AIT PRACTITIONERS
Doing AIT using the
FST or PortaFST Systems is different in many respects from other types of auditory
techniques:
-
It uses
high energy styles of music.
-
It uses
music with vocals to maximize the impact on the auditory system for more
benefits.
-
It helps to
exercise the listening mechanism, not stimulate the emotional state.
-
The AIT Protocol
that is followed is exactly the same: The duration is specifically two (2)
half-hours per day for ten (10) days consecutively or with a maximum two (2)
day pause after the first five (5) consecutive days.
The minimum time
between AIT sessions in a day is 3 hours.
-
The volume
settings, which are as intense as the user can tolerate, to give maximum
‘exercise’, within approved hearing safety limits.
-
AIT if repeated
is not done more frequently than once a year and is only repeated if
needed.
-
AIT gains are often
immediately seen, develop over time and are long lasting.
Comparison
Filtered Sound Training (FST) System Compared To Other AIT
Devices
Former AIT
devices in use including the
Earducator, Digital Auditory Aerobics (DAA) and Audiokinetron (no longer
manufactured) all have from the same drawbacks in AIT delivery:
-
First, they are more expensive for a Practitioner and
also a Client who is supervised in office with the Practitioner, for 20
sessions of AIT.
-
Secondly, they
are
bulky devices.
-
The client
must travel to the office of the AIT Practitioner to access the
AIT
device in order to obtain the 10 -
12 days Auditory Integration Training 20 session protocol.
Benefits of Filtered Sound Training (FST) System Compared To
Other AIT Devices
-
The FST is a
new concept in AIT that runs from a PC or laptop, using the sound
manipulation capabilities of the PC with the control for levels of loudness,
filters and session timing being built-in to the FST program.
-
FST has been
developed to answer the need for greater accessibility and lower costs.
-
FST is
software based and utilizes PC technology and your own computer system to
deliver high quality supervised At Home AIT
in the home, office or school.
-
The FST System
will deliver the AIT-quality sound alternation via headphones and adheres to
the original specifications of Dr. Berard
with one very important difference - that it can be done in the client’s
home!
-
FST remains free of the unproven restrictions regarding
minimum age of training and the complicated filtering protocols of
older AIT equipment.
-
For children with autism or under age 6, no
Audiograms
or Listening Tests
are required making AIT easier, less expensive and still as clinically effective.
-
Older
equipment has
been inconvenient to families seeking AIT for their children or an adult
with a busy work schedule.
-
This
restriction, together with the expensive equipment needed, has tended to
limit the availability of AIT.
-
The FST
Practitioner License provides the AIT Practitioner an unlimited license that
replaces the more bulky and costly hardware traditionally used for AIT.
-
Certified AIT Practitioners in the
FST system can adjust settings for individual users who attend the AIT
sessions in the usual manner of AIT.
-
FST
is an unlimited license, allowing multiple applications from one system.
