"Firstly, I would like to thank
Karon and Stan Shear and Alaska (the
parrot)
for being amazing teachers and for accommodating the time to make the sessions
happen. With every treatment, it is crucial having the "right" person
implementing or doing the treatment; you are those people! I am very grateful I
crossed path with Karon. The sessions itself felt like therapy for me.
I knew after the first set, that the second time
will bring new developments as well and I was curious to see what it will be.
As a parent of a child with
ASD there is a vast amount of therapies to
choose from, this can be very confusing and costly. With everything I tried,
even with a supplement, I secretly believed this is what will make the
difference. From my experience I have to admit that nothing I have done has made
a huge difference. It is hard to say what really does, because you never
just do one thing, plus it could have changed anyways just because your child is
growing up and developing.
With
AIT (Auditory Integration
Training) however, I could see immediate changes/improvements, subtle, but
significant. I questioned myself thinking I just noticed the changes because
I am paying attention to them, but because other people were noticing the
changes as well, I knew it was from our AIT sessions.
After the first sessions, Ben’s vision improved,
usually he would not notice if something was knocked over, but after 2 days of
sessions he started to pick up things that had fallen on the floor and placed
them on the couch or the chair. When a drop of water landed on a cushion, he
tried to wipe it off, before he would not even have noticed it.
His cognitive abilities improved over the next
few months and he seemed a lot more aware of his surroundings.
A year later, I decided to do another set of
sessions and the changes I saw this time were a bit different yet again I saw
immediate, subtle, but significant changes.
Things I have noticed:
-
Improved eye contact.
-
Ben is a sensory seeking child and craves
sound.
-
His love for music increased even more and
his ability to bang, clap and through his body to exactly the rhythm of the
music was astonishing.
- Calmer and able to play with a toy for a longer time.
- Less tantrums and behavior.
- Speech increased, 3 weeks after our sessions he said "let’s go I want
computer" on his own. He had never said more than 3 words before.
- For the first time, he ate his fruit bar instead of licking it until it
dissolves.
I believe AIT is a
wonderful, gentle and amazing therapy which works and makes sense.
For the first time in 6 years, he is able to entertain himself while I cook
dinner."
