Contact Us by the Parents of 2 year old
boy who
both did AIT with
Dorinne Davis,
Berard AIT Practitioner “The results
from AIT were almost immediate.
"From Institutionalization to Yankee Stadium! Adam, at age 2, was a head-banger. He experienced rages. He didn’t talk at all. He would eat very little. He didn’t allow any contact whatsoever. He didn’t even like the feel of water on his skin. For his own protection, he needed to wear a helmet. The medical prognosis was that Adam was so severely autistic that he would need to spend his life in an institution. Adam’s Mom, Joni, worked all the usual channels for support and information. Joni was at a COSAC support group meeting when she heard Dorinne Davis, an educational and rehabilitative audiologist with 35+ years experience, describe how sound, if it is not properly processed through the ear to the brain, can result in auditory deprivation and cause a host of symptoms, including many autistic traits. This approach made sense to Joni, but to no one else. Not to any of the major autism centers in New Jersey. Not even to her own husband. But Joni was determined to try sound therapy. She scheduled Adam for a diagnostic test and they started AIT (Auditory Integration Training) soon after. “The results from AIT were almost immediate,” says Joni. For the first time ever, her son crawled up and sat in her lap. He showed emotion for the first time. When they snuggled in bed, she felt an emotional connection between them for the first time, to the point that she felt she actually had a glimpse into his world. Adam was even able to acknowledge her from his backseat while she was driving. The head-banging stopped. They proceeded to take several rounds of Tomatis therapy. This is when he started to develop speech. Adam started with word-parts, eventually made full words, and then created sentences. He could also now listen to music and clap along, something that was previously unheard of. And he was able to recall events now. He was remembering and relating things. And here it gets even more amazing – Adam started showing signs of giftedness! His memory was extraordinary. He could tell you, from memory, the colors of each of the spaces on the Candyland game board, in their right order! He knew all 50 states and their locations and all the presidents’ names in order. At age 4, Adam maxed out on the test for abstract reasoning! Adam is now 10 ˝ and is mainstreamed in school. He’s had 4-5 Tomatis treatments, not uncommon for starting at such a young age when the brain is still developing. And the family knows when it’s time for his yearly booster Tomatis treatment. And the only helmet he wears now is his Little League batting helmet. Adam has thrown out the ball at 3 major league games – for the Yankees, the Marlins, and the Expos! The autistic boy they said would have to be institutionalized is now a regular, baseball-loving kid."
